Traffic in our NCR Region – In Focus (Indirapuram) Part II

Now having said about the plight of the driving and Traffic Rule Violations  in Indirapuram I would like to share some of the major Choke points, that I see needs our utmost attention.

When I see and actually get stuck in the Traffic Jams on the Indirapuram roads, there are few things that I think are the root cause of the situation.

1) Exit Points – All the exit points in Indirapuram that are leading to either Noida, NH24 bypass, Vaishali Metro Station have one thing in common and that is, small congested concrete roads that I think were never made to handle such enormous traffic.

You name the exit points and you will have the same situation there during the Morning peak hours and the evening time.

  • Surang Road (Popularly known, connecting Indirapuram to NH24 as one of the exit points, nearest Landmark to this road is Shipra Mall Road) – This one tops the list of all the exits in Indirapuram. In the morning time, it looks as if Automobile companies have shifted their venue of displaying their Cars, Bikes, and Auto Rickshaw etc. from their compounds onto the Indirapuram roads. People from all directions , one coming from the Kala Pathar market , other one the Traffic diverging from the NH24 bypass , the other one’s coming from Shipra Mall road , all come together to shake hands on the road and you can see everyone just trying to push and take his/her vehicles ahead of others , not even caring the fact that by doing that he is actually stopping the people coming from the opposite directions and making it a Non Porous place which no one , even the Traffic policeman cannot penetrate to clear it out. To my amazement, even I become a very active member in all this, while driving. We normally have two Traffic Personnel’s sitting at that very same point where all the action is taking place and occasionally they try to clear the Jam off the road, and to some extent succeed as well. But on the days when they are not present, it is a painful sight to see what we become while driving.

  • A second Exit point that leads via the Kala Pathar Market and then the first left at the Roundabout and passing Gupta’s Sweet shop towards NH24 Bypass is another area where you don’t want to be during the Morning and Evening times. The story of the jam developing around the roundabout is same. Since we don’t have any Traffic controlling Lights , so no one wants to wait and let others go and they make a righteous driving vehicle, as if it’s the culprit of all this nuisance.

  • The third Exit Point again via the Kala Pathar road, but this time going via the Vaishali road to the Metro Station is again a mess. Apart from the Roundabout stories which you will find very very common in all my posts, there is a new addition when you will go via this way. While coming on the Vaishali road via the Green Park Area, there is a small Bridge constructed to connect Indirapuram and Vaishali. Now that Bridge is made to absorb traffic 10 times more than it can take. On the top we have a sharp turn just when you get off the bridge, which adds to the chaos. Now you have commuters from all by lanes, sub-lanes on the same bridge. There are basically two sets of the people coming, one that needs to go to Indirapuram and the other that wants to go from Indirapuram to Vaishali Metro Station and this is worse as far as it can be. Wrong side driving, bottlenecks at the roads are very common sightings here.

  • The fourth Exit point via the CISF area to the NH24 Bypass and Sec 62 Noida road is again a major choke point during the peak hours. The reason according to me is the passages that have been given for the U-Turns /Taking Right and getting on the other side of the road etc. If used in the right manner, then it’s a good thing which is very rare in these part of the roads and what we finally get is a horrendous game of People trying to sneak peek on every possible space that meets their eyes. And then to add  to the misery, right where we have the Roundabout opposite to the Spencer’s, Bikano and Easy Day, there is no Lights to control the traffic. People drive their vehicles like crazy and don’t care about the traffic rules. They just want to reach their destination.

  • The other Major problem or let me rather say it as a Menace  on NH24 Bypass Highway, is caused due to the Constant Traffic Rules Violations by the Auto Rickshaws. I am sure that many of you would have seen the same, as most of the times the Traffic Rules are violated repeatedly by the Auto Rickshaws for getting more and more passengers. They don’t care where they stop while driving, if someone’s coming from behind, if they are driving in the right or wrong direction. It feels like that the road has been turned into some kind of Parking Spot. Most part of the Road which is meant for driving is covered by the Auto Rickshaw’s and the perfect place to see this will be near the Drona Hotel on NH24 Bypass while driving towards Delhi. And most of the times we have Traffic personnel’s standing there and doing nothing or might be that they can’t do anything about it as it has become part of the life for them.  I am sure if we make the NH24 Bypass as a No-Stop Zone, we will be resolving a major chunk of the issue.

One Lady who’s daring to bring a Change Alone

Also I will like to highlight that there is an elderly lady on the NH24 Bypass and I am so impressed by seeing her dedication to make people drive in the Traffic Rules during the peak hours of the morning. I don’t know her name yet, but will surely find it out. And almost all the times, you can see that the traffic policemen stand and just look at the proceedings, instead of doing anything. But the lady is all immersed in her work and she makes sure that Traffic is running smooth for those driving and for pedestrians as well. I am uploading her pic so that you can see who she is and how she helps all of us…

 Traffic Blog 2

 Well Done Mam!!!

My Suggestions – For Abiding by the Traffic Rules and not breaking them.

Now with all this information made captive on the blog, I do ask myself most of the times, what is that I am achieving or will achieve by writing a blog, which most of you will just skip as another blog on the Search Engines, but I do believe that sometimes or the other, there will be some folks who will read it and will help me in this cause to bring an end to “Traffic Rule Violation Menace”

Now my Suggestions is to keep things simple and not complicate them. Let’s just adhere to the Traffic Rules. And how we can do that – it’s actually not a rocket signs

  • While driving, always drive in your respective lane. Adhere to the lane driving.

  • When at the Traffic Lights, don’t Jump please. Wait for the Light to turn Green. There might be someone coming from the other side.

  • Always give way to the people walking on the pedestrian lane.

  • If Traffic lights not working, please and please move in turns. Let the one waiting already pass and then accordingly.

Stop LineA stop line is a wide white line painted across the street. When a crosswalk or limit line is not marked, stop at the corner. Check for traffic before crossing. Wait until it is safe before going forward. Don’t try to Overtake, where there is a Straight Yellow line as that’s what it signifies. Don’t Cross Me.

Solid LinesDO NOT PASS When there are double solid yellow lines. Two sets of solid double yellow lines that are two or more feet apart sometimes appear as a road marking. Such lines stand for a solid wall. Don’t drive on or over these road markings. You may not make a left turn or U-turn across it.

DO NOT PASS When a solid yellow line is on your side. But you may pass only if the movement can be made safely.Solid Dot Lines

Crossing Yellow LinesCROSSING A SOLID DOUBLE YELLOW LINE TO TURN LEFT. It’s okay to cross a double yellow line to turn left. YOU CANNOT cross a double yellow line to pass another vehicle.

  • Drive by giving respect to others. When you can get pissed off by seeing other breaking the Traffic Rules, others also feel the same when you do it.

  • Let’s take an example from our Office Work, when we can be so responsible for our daily work in the office, why can’t we show the same Responsiveness while driving on the road.

  • Try giving someone a pass instead of Overtaking him, when he is in waiting on the Roundabout longer than you, He will surely appreciate the fact. And that really will bring a smile on your face as well.

  • Don’t cross the roads which are meant not to be crossed.

Let’s give some hours of our weekends or weekdays to help people adhere to Traffic Rules instead of Violating. We can do it by just standing at any Traffic Lights where we have seen people jumping red lights, rash overtake, honking, driving on the wrong side etc.. And making them aware about the same. We can have a Camp of Volunteers on weekends as well.
