Filthy Language is used by people who don’t have Intellect or Brain to use better words – How true is that?

languagelanguage
ˈlaŋɡwɪdʒ
the method of human communication, either spoken or written, consisting of the use of words in a structured and conventional way.
Inception of today’s post comes from a Topic that has made me to “Think & Take a Stance” to express/share my thoughts on the way “we structure the words to form a meaningful communication channel”.

Language like everything else in this universe, has also evolved during the course of time. This evolution can be seen linked very close to the convenience of people using the same. We will find an array of new words stacked & added some that signifies an enhancement to the Pool of words AND Some which I guess are, Open to Debate & can be termed under the category of being Filthy in Nature. (Filthy refers to being offensive/abusive in nature.)

“Necessity is the Mother of Invention”
An apt Proverb that reflects Evolution of the Words in the overall Language

But an Interesting Question that surfaces then, is – Do we start Judging the segment of the people that uses the Filthy Words in context to their Intellect or Maturity ??

I am calling today’s post as –

“Filthy Language is used by people who don’t have Intellect, Brain Or Maturity to use better words.” – Do you think its True?

 My Rendezvous with Statement

I read this Statement while browsing a Facebook Posts. The Statement struck an immediate chord and my curiosity drove me to put some thoughts around.

The Statement in itself draws you to perceive & being opinionated. You can either Like It or Completely Hate It, depending upon the way you want to perceive, thus adding another dimension!!

Initially I reached out to my fellow peers on some of few Facebook Posts and the response was overwhelming. I could see lots of people pouring in their ideas both in Favor or Against the Statement. And there were quite a few interesting comments which I would like to share in my today’s blog.

There are some thoughts which kind of want you to think, how the Language evolved over the years. With the evolution comes new words which were convenient to be used by few and hence got rooted in the Language with time.

Intellect/Maturity- Relation with people using Filthy/ Profanity language

The other aspect which comes along is to evaluate whether people using the profanity language are people with limited Intellect or Maturity. This is a topic which is wide open to debate.

One School of thought, goes to define that people relying too much on profanity/filthy language tend to use them as a Filler in making most of the conversations. When faced with a Confronting situation, Profanity is best alternative to move back to. But does that define their Intellect/Maturity?

Whereas another School of Thought would define that people should avoid the profanity/filthy language. As an act of Intellect/Maturity, we can Avoid a specific situation which demands to use the Filthy language. Avoidance in this aspect can be directly proportional to an act of Intellect/Maturity.

Comments from People – I Quotes from FacebookFacebook Icon

And I Quote from the  Facebook Group “Coffee House Writers”/ “Fantasy & Science Fiction Writers in America”.

Jared Prince brought in a good Analogy – There’s no truth to that at all. That’s like saying people that can’t solve matrices and do integrals don’t have intellect.

Christine Marie Bryant: Brought in a Context from a Writer NookNot 100% true …. writers will write their character’s voice to match their character. Example – an excellent writer can write about a character who has a trashy mouth. That trashy mouth adds to the multidimensional existence of that character.

Nikoletta Vasilopoulou: Gave a shade of  How a Specific Situation drives/demands the use of a Filthy Language – Precisely. Just as no one has the same way of expressing themselves, sometimes characters have no other ‘language’ than ‘filthy language’

Jackie Kotowicz: Brought in the Room, the Lazy Dimension to the overall discussion – Sometimes its just lazy. But there is truly no better dialogue than a well placed Fuck.

Steve McCarthy : Challenged the whole foundation of what Filthy defines (Pretty Interesting Though) – What is “filthy language” in the first place? Culture and context mean a lot. I’ll be polite, but in Britain “cu..” and “tw..” just mean an idiot, and the universal “F” (and it’s variants), like “feck” can be wonderfully descriptive, while “bloody” is considered quite crude. Creative “filthy language” is an art form.

Ashley Summers Flynn: Spoke against the Notion with sheer Intellect Outlook – arbitrary judgments of language and the words people choose to use are made by small-minded people who are usually pretty ignorant

Latanya Ivey: Another thought from the perspective of Classism –  I have two degrees and I curse like a sailor. Comments, such as the one quoted, came from systemic classism from the bourgeoisie. The cleanest mouths tend to be profane through the actions of the matching hands.

Robert Joyce: Going against the notion in a simple manner –  Words are words. Intelligence is a different thing. I generally avoid words that may offend others in public conversations. But, I also don’t speak much either. So I am usually carefully choosing the words I speak…

Lydia Hernandez: Thoughts from the mindset of a Writer – Most of my writing is either academic or copy, so when I slip into filthy language mode it’s mostly to relax…almost like shaking off any stuffiness or pretentiousness from my real way of talking. Obviously, I keep the sailor talk contained to certain places with certain people, but goodness, what a relief it is to let it out!

Natalie Hodge: Brought in another context to understand English Language –  In all honesty, the English language is very complex for those who are just learning it. Because of all of the different meanings. To me , cursing is a whole different language now days. Say for instance, Ass is in the bible and speaks of as donkey. Although through out the years, “Traditional Classy language” has been replaced with foul language. A great man of wisdom once said, what is in the heart will come out of the mouth.

John Riherd: Brought in the context of Evolution of English Language – Ass is a good word and has nothing to do with the donkey when speaking of morphology. It is the American colonization of the British “arse” which has been used for centuries. Just like burst become bust, a lot of words in the new world loss their r’s. It was used regularly in Britain for a long time before it became to be considered vulgar. According to Oxford it went out of fashion and became vulgar during the 17th century after centuries of being perfectly acceptable.

Mende Smith: Spoke against the Notion – Actually, filthy words and swear words in general are a sign of high-minded behavior in context. Google it.

Dean Wygate: An Artist on the TalkThe use of profanity is like an artist using a broad brush with heavy strokes: it makes a bold statement. That’s not to say that people always use such language to achieve such an effect but it’s certainly the case with more literate people. Our language includes these words and they should be used, if only sparingly.

Christopher Petit: Brought the discussion a new outlook for trying to understand the mindset of one using profanity –  I think it depends on why someone is cursing. Curses use a different part of the brain than our normal speech processing…

En W Schofield:Speaking against the Notion – I disagree…people who curse and swear are NOT (necessarily) smarter… just cruder. More angry, and less self-controlled. It’s not so much a liberation of expression on their parts, so much as a demonstration of their lack of education. Using an F-bomb every 3rd or 4th word doesn’t tell me that this is someone I would want to discuss current events with.

Though I can’t Quotes all other comments made, I would like to mention a special note of Thanks to all the peers for giving their valuable inputs.

ConclusionDrukwerk

As the Statement Goes, the Conclusion to today’s Post is Wide Open for a Debate.

There can’t be a Definitive answer… Yes there will be a certain section of people that will tend to weight their side of response as the most apt than the other section.

But from my Perspective, I would like to Conclude – “Profanity/Filthy language, is definitely not a good way to communicate. We should refrain ourselves from hurting others. Having said that, Using Filthy language doesn’t evaluate the Intellect/Maturity of an individual”. The main driver which want us to fall back to profanity/filthy language is the Situation, and its a Personal Choice to either Ignore or Confront a specific situation with Filthy language

What’s your Take…
