Here are my thoughts on what i observed while driving on the Odd days, on the Capital Roads!!!

So the Odd & Even Traffic Rule finally came to an end on the Capital roads yesterday – 15th Jan 2016.  My few observations while driving on one of the Odd days from Gurgaon to Noida traversing via Capital has been mostly fulfilling.

  • One thing that strikes you right away is that the Roads are bigger in a new way that you hadn’t experienced previously. You could see fewer vehicles & subsequently less traffic while driving.
  • The other Encouraging site was the Abidance of the citizens for the Odd & Even Traffic Rule. I could see that most of the vehicles on the Odd day were Odd, however, there were few even vehicles as well.
  • You could significantly see the Traffic difference, when you enter from Gurgaon to Delhi and while leaving Delhi to enter Noida. The difference in the vehicles was something that you couldn’t have missed.
  • Another noteworthy thing was due to less Traffic, obviously & logically Less Pollution on the roads, which leads to clean breathable air for us. Less airborne diseases for the citizens.
  • Now there will be some people debating, on how much the Pollution has dipped in last 15 days and you can also see the Evening Prime-times TV showcasing the debates and all…But one thing that i am pretty sure as one of the driving vehicle, that it was a Good Strategic move from Arvind Kejriwal’s cabinet.

So today i am going to add a Poll asking for your opinions – what do you think if the Odd and Even Traffic Rule was a Success & should the Delhi’s Govt,  be doing an Analysis and make it a standard practice on the roads going forward.

Let’s see what all we have to say !!! I am definitely going to VOTE FOR – Odd & Even Traffic Rule!!! Go Up and give Your Votes!!⇑

  1. I’ll love to comment, based on what I’ve heard through newspapers and news, because I have no experience of the odd-even rule, since i’m not a resident of New Delhi. First of all, this odd-even rule is a “YES” from my side. The fact, that the roads once “packed with vehicles”, were actually “Half empty” in these trial run days, describes it perfectly. One other fact that attracts me is the penalty of disobeying the rule. For those who like to play with traffic personals, a Rs.2000 penalty is going to be a reminder saying “Do not break this rule again”. Taking one leap forward, rather than doing nothing is what I believe, will be the success of this marvelous rule.

  3. It was a a very good decision on the part of Delhi government. However the success largely belongs to the people of NCR. It clearly shows that people do respond when they are made aware that they are a part of something good. And yes as pointed by sushant heavy penalties for law/rule breakers do help, as massive public awareness. Both done well but Delhi government.
Delhi metro is a good example as well.
Things do improve when government and people work together 🙂

    1. Certainly they do improve. We need to have the odd/even rule back on the capital roads, & certainly not keeping a blind eye to the other aspects as well, Arvind Kejriwal’s cabinet do needs to do more planning – Robust Transportation/Coordination among Public Transports/Standard Public Transports rates/Availability of public transports for all etc… so that we can see the potential of the rule along with conveyance to common people.

  4. Although the odd-even rule might have decreased the traffic but the major problem in delhi right now is not about traffic but aboit pollution. Farmers of punjab and haryana burn the rest over of their farms which ends up getting mixed with toxins released from refineries which ends up creating more hazardous toxins. The indian oil refineries need to upgrade their machines to meet the european standards to reduce this but for this they have to pay a lot so they aren’t doing it. Moreover there is so much contruction and demolition in delhi that produces about 4000 tonnes of debris everyday and delhi’s sole processing plant can only process about 10% of that. Even the pollution check up centrs of automobiles aren’t working but are still providing clearances. My opinion is that odd-even system has not done anything more than reducing traffic on roads and increasing in the metro trains. The govt. knows about everything that is the reason it is the govt but a far sighted approach would have been more benficial. 👍
